Knitting has long been called “Yoga of the mind.”
It’s certainly been one of my go-to’s for soothing my nervous system and recalibrating. It just feels GOOD.
You don’t have to knit to cultivate this “yoga of the mind” effect.
Studies show that we benefit deep down when we engage in repetitive movements and left-right movements. Activities like:
- Knitting (this woman is a goddess who taught me how to knit my first pair of socks!)
- Clay sculpting,
- Jumping rope,
…Can all be effective at self-soothing and maintaining self-regulation in moments of distress.
